Underwater Photography is one of the most equipment intensive art forms. Not only do you need lifesupport equipment to get near your subjects, but your cameras need the same in the form of waterproof housings. I have used Seacam housings since 1995 and they have never let me down. They are expensive but in my opinion they offer the finest system you can buy. My current kit bag comprises the digital Nikon D2X and the F100 film camera - I haven't abandoned film just yet, it still suits some subjects better than digital, although I have to say most of my work is now captured digitally. My favoured lenses include the 10.5 and 16mm fisheyes, the 14mm ultra wide and for general subjects the 17-55mm and 28mm. For macro I use the 60, 105 and to a lesser extent 200mm micro Nikkors. The most used are the fisheyes and the 60mm. For lighting I use Subtronic Mega Color underwater strobes. These wide angle flashguns push out 350 watts each and recycle in less than 2 seconds from a full discharge - ideal for fast shooting. I also use the Inon Z220's for close up work - they are powerful yet unobtrusive. |
